JACKSON, MI — First it was a call for help, then a “Puppy Shower,” and now Cascades Humane Society has set a personal record for its most cats and dogs adopted in a single day.

In all, 18 puppies, six cats and four adult dogs found new forever homes on Saturday, April 12.

More than 200 people attended the shower and made donations of money, food and supplies.

“This community is amazing” Lisa Bonney, executive director at Cascades said. “The event was held to bring awareness to the influx of puppies that had recently been abandoned at Cascades.

“We asked for the community’s support to ensure that all animals are wanted and have a proper home.”

The 11 eight-week old puppies abandoned in a Jackson-area home and brought in to Cascades were called the stars of the event. The mother dog of this litter is a pit bull mix, and the father is a corgi mix.

Bonney said those puppies have found new homes, but there are still many other animals available at Cascades.

“New animals arrive here every day, and each one has needs,” she said. “This organization is solely funded by caring individuals, companies and foundations.

Cascades thanks the community and appreciates its ongoing support that makes it possible for us to care about animals today.”
