CHS Comes to the Rescue!

CHS recently received a call from a local mobile home community, alerting us to a hoarding situation. The resident had abandoned the home for over 30 days, and when maintenance workers entered the property, they saw several cats inside. The home was unheated and the cats were left with no food.

Jumping at the opportunity to save lives and help the  community, CHS went over immediately to assess the situation. The house was full of trash, cat feces and empty cat food containers. Staff was overwhelmed by the foul odor and had to be careful when moving through the property to navigate around the trash.

Upon arrival the first day, staff was able to capture one cat. Over the next couple of days, staff set live traps and successfully captured 8 more cats. Unfortunately, there were several cats who were not so lucky; one escaped when a maintenance worker entered, and others were sadly found dead in the home.

Once at CHS, the cats were evaluated, given vaccines, microchipped and those that needed to be were spayed or neutered. Of the 9 cats, 7 are now available for adoption. One is being treated for a medical condition and one has gone to his forever home as a barn cat.

It is times like these that remind me that our mission, “to connect pets in need with people that care”, goes beyond just the adoption process. It is unfortunate that these situations arise, but CHS is proud to be able help the Jackson Community and its pets.

Your support allows CHS to continue our mission and afford the staff time and medical resources to do these special rescues. Please donate today to help CHS save more lives!
