Record Adoptions

The adoption of eighteen puppies, six cats and four adult dogs in one day set a new record for CHS.

April 12 is a day we won’t soon forget. The day began with a “puppy shower” in which the community came out to help find homes for 18 abandoned puppies and donated over $2,000 worth of cash and items.

But it didn’t end there. At the end of the day, Cascades celebrated the highest number of daily animal adoptions in the organization’s history. It is exciting when individuals and families are able to find a new furry friend and we give thanks that so many animals found forever homes in just one day.

Our work continues with new animals arriving at Cascades every day. Each one requires individualized care and attention. Already in 2014, requests for spay/neuter procedures have exceeded normal scheduling timeframes, so we added another day of surgery. In addition to the abandoned puppies in February, five litters of kittens were also left at Cascades. And just this month a local puppy breeder is shutting down their kennel and giving us their dogs.

These are all good things for the animals in Jackson County, but pose challenges for Cascades. In addition to the increased volume, we are also seeing an increase in health concerns. Abandon litters require special formula and medical care. More and more animals are arriving with respiratory issues that require long stays in isolation while receiving treatment before adoption. The dogs from the breeder are matted, dirty and are being checked for health complications.

Because our community’s animals rely upon Cascades – both today and tomorrow; last month and again next month – your ongoing interest and financial support is needed. Our care can only be done with your support. Please consider how you might be able to help during this next month. Go online and make financial donation. Register for Paws in the Park. Forward this email to someone who also cares about animals and ask them to support our work.

Thank you for your ongoing interest and support. Thank you for all you do to make this a wonderful community for all puppies, kittens, cats and dogs.

The animals couldn’t survive without you.
