Why Give

As a smart and contentious donor, you want to make sure your gift is going somewhere that needs it and will use it appropriately. The staff at CHS can assure you that we understand that and this is the place to support!

Why Give to CHS?

As a non-profit, we do not receive any funding from local, state, or national government agencies. We also do not receive any support from state or national Humane Societies or other similar organizations.

What does this mean? We are fully funded by businesses, grants, events and individuals who want to see the homeless pets of Jackson, MI and the surrounding areas cared for as they deserve. That means every penny pays for the care of the animals, the staff that care for them and adopt them into their forever homes, and the supplies needed, all need to be raised through fundraising.

What Does Your Gift Do?

Your gift goes a LONG way at CHS. Our staff and board work hard to ensure that all money is spent appropriately and in the best interest of the animals.

Each pet is spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccines, disease tested (Felv/FIV for cats and Heartworm for dogs), given parasite preventatives, and most are microchipped.  With the feeding, cleaning, and extra medical needs, the average cost of care per animal is $650! We want to make sure every animal gets a home, so we cannot possibly charge that for the adoption fees. Donations help off set the cost of care for animal and the adoption fee paid by the owner.

$20 provides microchips to 3 dogs so they can always be found
$30 provides a cat their vaccines and a Felv/FIV test
$50 will neuter a cat prior to adoption
$100 will sterilize a dog available for adoption
$250 will provide 25 Heartworm tests so we can treat the deadly disease if found
$500 will pay for Heartworm treatment in one of our dogs inflicted with the disease
$1,000 will cover emergency medical care to a pet in need

In addition to adoptions, we are proud of the programs we offer to our community. We have a low cost spay and neuter program that will not only help the health of the pet, it will cut down on the unwanted litters of puppies and kittens coming into shelters. We also have a Forgotten Feline Program that sterilizes feral cats. We spay or neuter them for only $10 (and rabies vaccinate them) and then they can be re-released to the location they had been living, ensuring yet again, less unwanted litters of kittens.  Donations off set the cost of this program. Lastly, we have a Pet Food Pantry that supplies families in need with pet food so they don’t have to chose between feeding their pet and paying bills. This keeps the pets in their homes (and not in shelters) where they belong and are loved.

These programs are supported by the generosity of donors, both in the way of monetary gifts and in kind (in the form of pet food and supplies).
