21 Puppies Need You!
It’s unbelievable. During March, over twenty-one newly born puppies have arrived at Cascades Humane Society’s doorstep needing food, shelter, love and your help.
An abandoned pregnant female (husky mix) gave birth to seven puppies just days after her arrival. No one has stepped forward to claim her or the puppies. Six of the puppies were born healthy, while one needed constant monitoring and additional attention.
Three 4.5-week old puppies (border collie mix), too young to be separated from their mother were brought to Cascades. Undernourished and weak, these pups went directly to a foster home.
Eleven three-week old puppies were abandoned in an Jackson area home and then brought to Cascades. The person bringing in the dogs told us that she was helping someone out by caring for the mother and the pups while the person was ill, and didn’t know what to do when the owner only asked for the mother back. These pups are currently in foster homes. Most of them are healthy, but one has required special food, care and vet services.
And the month isn’t over with yet.
We welcome each innocent darling into our care. We are excited about being a part of this animals brighter future. And, we give thanks for this community that supports our work so that we are always ready to help however many animals arrive at our doorstep.
What does 21+ puppies mean for us?
Even though we expect an increase in puppies and kittens each spring, the sheer volume this year is unprecedented. These Twenty-one puppies have stretched our limits. Additional foster homes have been needed. Over 20 lbs of formula ($300) has been purchased so far. intensive medical support for two of the newborns ($150) was required. And, over $ 5,250 in routine health procedures will be provided before they are available for adoption.
All services we provide. All services that are taxing our limited resources.
