CHS Celebrates New Starts for 825 Animals

This past month Cascades Humane Society has been recognizing the impact that the organization is having on each animal that arrives at our doorstep. In 2013, we were able to find new forever homes for 365 dogs, 395 cats, 9 rabbits, 9 guinea pigs, 1 ferret, 4 rats, and 2 birds. In addition, we facilitated another 40 animal transfers which means that they were retuned to their owners or placed in a long term foster care home.

It is the highlight of our day when we sit across the counter from someone who is completing the adoption paperwork on their newest family member. The excitement, the compassion, and the eagerness to share their life with an animal in need is contagious. We are proud to be a part of this process and though we are sad to see an animal leave, we get just as excited as the family who is adopting.

This bond between adopters, animals and CHS doesn’t end there. Almost every day we hear back from an “alumnus’ family” who continues to share their joy with us. Check out this edition’s Happy Tail story. One piece of information Jessica didn’t mention until recently is that the day she describes in her letter — the one on which she lost her cat and the day Macy Grey arrived at CHS — was also her birthday. I am grateful that Jessica allowed us to share her story. Her adoption story is only possible because of caring people like you.

Her story, and the 824 other stories we were a part of last year is possible because you cared enough to read our newsletters, share our work with your friends and neighbors, make a financial donation, and attend our community events. Thank you!

As we start the new year, we ask that you continue to be involved with us and our animals. Our services are funded exclusively through charitable donations from individuals, businesses, foundation and community groups. Your loyal support ensures that while residing at CHS each of these animals receives daily care and attention from compassionate individuals, are given proper nutrition and water, lives in a clean and healthy environment, spends time playing, walking or cuddling, and is treated humanely until their future owner arrives to take them home.

We can’t do it without you.

So on behalf of the board of directors, staff, volunteers and myself, thank you for helping us celebrate new starts for 825 in 2013 and the hundreds more we will help in 2014.
