Happy New Year! 2014
It’s been an exciting year and the staff and volunteers want to thank you for being a part of Cascades Humane Society. Because of your ongoing interest and financial support, Cascades was able to respond to many unique community needs this year.
In May, an abandoned Sulcata Tortoise was found in Grass Lake. About six years old and weighing twenty pounds this young tortoise had probably outgrown his owners home. Now named Shelly, he has become a CHS mascot and initiates a lot of conversations with potential pet owners on the role and responsibilities of pet ownership.
In June, 70 cats that were surrendered from a hospice patient took over our community room and in just under six months all have found new homes.
This fall, we began hosting an hour-long educational and interactive session for area fourth graders. Local school districts are able to send their students to CHS to learn about the humane treatment of and safety around animals.
In November, representatives from local law enforcement agencies came to CHS for animal behavior training to prepare them for assuming animal control responsibilities in January.
As we look forward to the start of the new year in a few days, we are hopeful that you will continue your interest and support. Be sure to include the following community events in your 2014 calendar:
Paws & Claws 2/8
Paws In the Park 6/7
Unleash Your Heart Gala 10/18
Santa Paws in November
