The right cat for us!
“It was karma. It was knowing that we had found the right cat for us,” shares Jessica Webb. In May of 2013 my husband Kevin and I lost our beloved cat of nine years, Lucy. We lost her suddenly and we were devastated. Not only were Kevin and I mourning her loss, but our other cat, Mr. Kitty, was suffering from the loss of Lucy.
“After months had passed, we were slowly healing from the hurt and I began thinking about getting another cat, but Kevin wasn’t sure he was ready to move on. Around this same time, we had become aware of the mass cat surrender that CHS had recently experienced. My thought was that if we can’t find a companion out of the seventy cats that desperately needed a home, then we were definitely not in the market to get another cat.
To do our part to help Cascades and the cats, Kevin and I agreed that we would donate some cat litter and food. We decided to deliver the donations on a Saturday so it would give us some time to look at the cats. Over lunch we discussed what type cat we wanted – Kevin wanted a Siamese and I wanted a Tiger cat.
When we arrived at Cascades, you wouldn’t believe what we found. A lovely, Siamese/Tiger mix. Kevin and I met with Macy Gray (then known as Lucy) with her in a private room. Once Macy entered the room it was love at first sight. She jumped into Kevin’s arms and instructed us to pet her. We played with her for almost an hour. She made such an imprint on our hearts.
Just to be sure, and before we made our finale decision, we wanted to look at the other cats. As we walked through the cat area we ended up at Macy’s cage. We read her credentials, female, mixed, arrived at CHS on May 6. This was the day our beloved Lucy had passed on. At that instant we knew Macy was the one.
The staff assisted us with the adoption process. They were wonderful and informative. They did a background check to make sure all of our other furry friends were up to date with all of their vet vaccinations. They were as excited for us as we were to give Macy her forever home. It’s been seven months and we are just so happy with Macy Gray. She is the perfect fit to our little fur family.
Since the adoption, we have taken in a third cat that was a stray. With the new addition, Macy was welcoming and nurturing. Macy has trained us well to all of her needs and making sure she is spoiled. She is a true addition to our happy family and look forward to making many memories with her.
