Animal Care
Proper animal care is critical to the health and happiness of the animals in our care. Animal care includes cleaning the condos in the cat center, cleaning the kennels in the dog areas, walking the dogs, grooming cats and dogs, socializing and playing with the dogs, and playing with the cats. Animal care can be done any time the building is open. Volunteer time is best utilized for animal care, however, from 9 am – Noon and 4-6 pm. If you are interested in working directly with the animals, these are the most efficient times to do so.
Dog Walking
Dog walking is very important to the health of our dogs. This is when they get their exercise and use the bathroom. We try to get every adoptable dog out on a walk at least twice a day. This is a great time to reinforce good manners and teach our dogs some skills like sit, stay and heel. Dog Walker Training is required prior to walking dogs it is a 1-hour class which you are able to take after completing the required 10 hours of housekeeping.
Housekeeping
We require the help of many volunteers to keep our animals, their living spaces and our building clean. From sweeping and mopping to washing windows to laundry, we need volunteer help to keep CHS sparkling and beautiful for our animals.
Foster Care
CHS relies on the love and homes of our foster care volunteers when an animal is not quite ready for adoption. Foster volunteers open their homes to kittens or puppies that need time to grow, pregnant or nursing cats or dogs that need a little extra attention, or an animal recovering from an illness or injury.
Special Events
CHS hosts special events and fundraisers throughout the year. While working at an event, you may set up CHS areas, staff an information booth, answer questions about the shelter, direct traffic through the event, and much more. If you love interacting with people, this is the perfect role for you.
Maintenance/Grounds
CHS appreciates volunteer help with minor building repairs. With a facility as large as ours, there is a great need for volunteers who are skilled in building maintenance and repair.
Administrative/Office
If you like computers and office work, the CHS could use your skills. Tasks could include, but are not limited to helping with mailings, filing, data entry, making packets, etc.
Gardening Club
Please come and help us maintain our beautiful grounds. We have 5 spacious acres which include the Memorial Gardens, Paw Playground, Pond and Gazebo. If you love being outdoors this is a perfect opportunity for you. You do not need to be a Master Gardener to participate in our Garden Club.
Greeter
Do you enjoy working with the public? CHS has a need for volunteers to greet and direct people as they come in to visit with the animals. Training will be provided onsite.
